if your car has an air flow meter, then it MUST remain there. the afm is what measures the air coming into the engine. thats why at idle it stay's running, at idle it just runs off presets, as soon as you rev it though, it has to find a way to measure the air coming in. only way to get rid of it is to convert to some form of engine management. if it does not bolt up to your afm, then it is not made for your specific car, could be for a mk3, but not for your engine. could be for a 1g, or a 1jz, or a 7m.
