7M-GE Engine Mounts
Hello,
I know this question has probably been asked before, but I couldn't seem to find the answer anywhere. I understand that during the production of the 1989 model there was a change made to the engine mounts, to fit the JZ engines. I have a 1986.5 Supra with 310,000 mi. on it, and I also have an 89+ 7M-GE with 90,000 mi. on it. If possible, I would like to put the younger engine into the car. Is there a way to mount an 89+ engine in a pre-89 Supra? -OdysseusOnWheels |
Just unbolt the mounts from one engine and bolt them to the other.

And don't forget to swap the oil pans and oil pump strainers/pickup

Cool! Thanks!
I'm glad to know it's easy. :) |
you will have to switch the distributors ,they have diff. plugs on the harness, along with a couple other sensors cant think of them off the top of my head and really you should not have to change the mounts from my experience , i did the exact opposite swap (86 into an 89) i did not change the mounts or the oil pan for that matter but maybe im wrong and you will have to

The motor mounts and the cross member did change in '89. If you didn't change them then it's not an '89 you swapped in... I don't think the oil pan changed though... the only change in oil pan that I know of is the one used in the Cressida.
The '89+ motor mounts are a fluid filled design... nice and cushy but easier to break and possibly leak. EDT: Actually I shouldn't state that bonzo's engine wasn't from an '89. The very beginning of the '89 year model saw a lot of parts mixed in from the previous model years. Although there were mostly electrical components and wiring it shouldn't surprise anyone to see something else from a pre89 in there. |
