Ignition lock removal help
 

Ok I searched the forum's and could not find enough info on this

I can't figure out how to remove the cylinder lock

I have taken off the plastic casing behind the steering wheel but I have not removed the steering wheel....I'm hoping I don't have to???

I took off a tiny screw closest to the steering wheel
I push in the little pin on the top and the cylinder lock does not come out
What am I missing?? What am I doing wrong here?

Really? No one knows how to remove a lock cylinder?

(a) Place ignition key at the ACC position.

(b) Push down the stop key (on top) with a thin rod, and pull out the key cylinder.

(c) Make sure the ignition key is in the ACC position.

(d) Install a new key cylinder.

I have no key for the car that is why I ordered the new cylinder lock

You'll need to drill out the lock cylinder, then. This system was designed to prevent just what your trying to do. Anthing else and you risk damaging the steering column, which will be a harder job.

You could also check with a locksmith about picking the lock to get it to the ACC position. Then, the swap will be a snap. I just don't know what they will charge for the visit and pick.

The steering column collar is a sealed hunk of aluminum, and there is no other access the the lock cylinder.

I meant to add that you should only need to drill out the center tumbler section of the lock cylinder. Just to be able to remove the tumbler pins to get the cylinder to turn. Then use a screwdriver and rotate it to the ACC position, depress the pin, and out it comes.

You could also try taking your VIN Number and your proof of ownership to the dealership and see if they can give you one. I have done that at a honda dealership before, key cost me $4 in 2007 (88 Honda Civic)
