starting problem.
maybe fuel pump or coils/igniter died on me? I'm not sure so I thought i'd get some opinions.
87. 7mgte,r154 5spd. last week she started up and drove fine like usual. I parked it and hasnt been touched. today i decided to start her up, and it just wasnt happeneing. battery is good and the neg and pos cables, tight and clean. everything seems normal no smells, starter sounds like its working fine, even though i've read that the small guage wire to starter is crap, yet hasnt given me problems yet. when i put the key in and switch to acc,the boost gage rises to 0. i wait a few seconds, depress clutch and turn key. it tries to start but just doesnt turn over. it just goes cha cha cha cha cha cha cha. wait a few mins try again... cha cha cha cha stumble cha cha cha.... =/ ps. I can kinda hear the flywheel and starter whine down a bit after the cha cha's but i assume this is normal.

don't know, I'm not sure how to test coil packs, any advice?
been reading around for the past hour, only seen testing for the 7mge distributor setup, but not for a 7mgte coil pack. can you do the same thing with jumper cables or just run the spark plug out of the plug wire and see if it sparks? i've got extra spark plugs but dun wanna do it if my problem is fuel related, it's gotta be one of the two. a friend of mine told me to get some "starting fluid" and spray some in the throttle intake system and if it starts with it then eventually dies the fuel pump/filter is faulty...? just the thought of the stuff makes me laugh but i've seen some videos of it actually working.....or starting a fire... so uhhhh

well I found this at a buddy's place, but it's been too cold to try it out but obviously you plug this into a spark plug wire, clamp it to a ground, crank over and see if it sparks. i've used it to test a honda S2000 and worked fine.
i'm skeptical of using this with a 7mgte coil pack/wires, any1 use this b4, i'm thinking this SHOULD work to test for spark?

wow nothing? i guess no one has used or seen this thing b4... never used it on coil packs even though it seems like a good tool to have to check for (distributed) spark.
jummped the diag. with a copper cable wire B+ an Fp yet nothing happend. i didn't hear any clicks or whirring from the fuel pump/tank. i've read from even supragrl u can use a paper clip if u dont have a service wire. i assume the service wire is more like a "U" at the ends instead of a straigt paper clip "|". wiggled the CPS wires/connector, turned the key and she roar'd to life!! I drove it around for about 30 mins, parked it and tried again and she started right up. I suppose the cps didn't have good enough contact and in turn didn't turn on the fuel pump. how annoying to check so many things and it ends up a loose connector. shaeff gave me the idea to check the connector in the first place,on a write up he did about cps's. much thanks and I hope it helps others in the future.
