It's like 700 - 900 more. I am picking up an 87 supra(7m-ge) this weekend and have been planning a 2jzgte swap. I see the engine with auto trans from an aristo on ebay all the time for like 1700 - 1900. I found a 2j on ebay a couple days ago that came with an r154 already installed. about 35k on motor and they didn't list anything for tranny. I think it's kinda sketch since the trans didn't have any info. I dont want to have to rebuild it right off the bat. What price range is normal(to be expected) for an r154?
any info would be appreciated. |

Ah, you didn't specify that they may be different vintages... AFAIK, the later R154s do have some more robust internals. I do not know of any other differences between USDM and JDM when comparing like years though.
They may not think the transmission is worth a lot or don't have any additional info about it and just need to move it out. The only thing you can do is contact them and ask for as much info as possible. I've seen them run from as little as $200 dollars up to $500 for a stock one and depending on mileage. A local guy here just gave one away .

The jdm r154 doesn't have a ABS sensor. And the Aristo tranny has a weird shift lever extension on it that won't work in an mkiii. But the good news is people with an sc or BMW lookn to swap the jz in pay top dollar for the one with the extension I've seen them sell for over a grand. You need either a 1jz r154 or a US 7mgte tranny but then you would have to use the jz belhousing.

Half the USDM R154's don't have the ABS sensor either... I don't think they've for the flywheel for it either, so if ABS is an issue you could have that problem no matter who you get it from. It is a good point though that no matter where you source it, if you have ABS make sure that the internal flywheel that the ABS sensor reads is present if the donor vehicle didn't have ABS.
Was ABS never an option in Japan for the MKIII? I highly doubt it. If you're judging that off of some that you've seen do keep in mind that ABS was only an option in North America, not standard equipment on any year as far as I remember.
