Bigger Throttle Plate
I have come across this a few times when searching for parts and was wondering if it would be worth while for my 7mge or just a waste of money. Just curious since it would not be too expensive to do and I could probably have it done locally.

First off, that's a GTE throttle body and won't mate up.
Second, on a N/A it would be a waste of money. You need to remember that the trade off for volume is velocity. In a N/A engine you want velocity, not a much slower moving denser charge. In "by the seat of your pants" testing there really would be no noticeable difference but any perceived gain is purely imagination. The only throttle body mod I've seen done that I am unsure of but would like to see a LOT more data on is a dual throttle body... one on each side of the Y pipe's exit. I've also seen a dual butterfly TB from a Mustang fitted, but I suspect there would actually be a loss, smaller opening area and a lot of angled surface area to slow the air and create turbulence.

I think what they do is take the t body you send them and put in the bigger plate. But I kind of figured it would not do anything since most of the mods work better for forced induction.

Yeah, N/A system have to very carefully planned and executed.... you just can't beat physics and I guarantee you that no local machine shop has done the amount and type of testing that companies like Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen do. Any haphazard modification is always much more likely to cause a power loss..... the removal of the helmholtz resonator, for example. As popular as the mod is, physics and actual lab testing have proven repeated that it causes a loss as the resonator smooths the airflow and removes oscillations/turbulence from the incoming charge... but, people are stupid.

Yeah I've seen it before. That is nice for a race setup since it improves throttle response but would most likely would require custom fab. I will say that is does sound good.
And since we are on the subject, I think this would sound amazing in a supra. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ba8sT...eature=related Last edited by 907mge; 01-30-2011 at 02:59 AM. |

It's been done. A gentleman in Europe (I can't remember where).... It's turbo'd with ITBs and EFI. The carburetor thing with the 7M is stupid, IMO... yeah, great throttle response but you don't get any more power out of it.
