ideally you shouldnt have to use any sealer, If the head and block are machined.....unfortunately most people dont have the desire/time/money to take their engines to the machine shop then deal with all of the "extras" that come with it.
So yeah, copper spray. just be careful to spray it on evenly and let it get tacky before torqueing it down. oh and make sure that ALL of the old gasket material is COMPLETELY scraped off, and use a good brake parts cleaner to remove ALL traces of oil from the head and block surfaces. Good luck!
