Front and Dash lights come on when breaking
Hello..
I have a serious electrical problem in my 89 supra turbo, and maybe someone in this forum knows how to fix it. Every time I hit the break pedal, all my exterior lights (front yellow, side yellow and red, and of course the rear lights including the license plate lights) come on everytime i hit the brake; even the compartment glove light comes on; but the map lights does not. After a couple of months, the rear light relay (white box) burn a welded point in one of the thicker cable (see picture), and when this happen, All my rear lights do not work. I have to open the relay and resolder that connection. Have any of you have any idea how to fix this??? I already replace the main light/turn/wiper switch on the back of the wheel, but the problem is still there. Any suggestion... Thanks.... |

I forgot to add that every time i hit the brakes, the tail light warning light comes on, and when I release the brake pedal, it goes off. And when I am driving at night, the warning light is always on even though I have no burned bulb in my brake lights.

i had the same problem. you can buy one on ebay for like 20 bux or if you know how to solder just solder the piece back on. thats what i did and its been working fine for me for like 4 months now. all it is, is the relay that you have a picture of right there.
also check your wiring and fuses (under the hood) that could be the reason your lights are coming on when you hit your breaks. hopefully that will help. now i just have to fix my engine problem. Last edited by spunkenhimer; 02-16-2011 at 05:44 AM. |

The instrument panel lights and front parking lights are going on because one the tail lights has lost it's ground circuit. The brake light is finding ground by running through the tail light circuit, energizing it.
I had a similar problem, and fixed the ground. My problem was that a corroded connection on a brake light housing caused the ground to overheat, and melt the plastic lug the light housing was screwed to, along with the ground on a ring connector. Cleaned it all up and loaded it with dielectric grease on re-assembly fixed it for good. |
