New Possible Supra Buyer with Question

Hi Guys-

I am thinking of buying a 1990 Supra Targa Turbo (all white) from Craigslist. Engine has 144K, and seller indicated that it had the follwoing issues:

1. Power steering fluid slow leak onto exhaust manifold causing smoke after about hour of constant driving. Thinks it just has a leak....

2. Engine has a little bit of hesitation, nothing serious. he said it could be spark plugs or maybe related to the above power steering issue.

Other than that car looks great on the outside and good to great on the interior.

He is asking $2900, is that fair? I would like to get him down to $2500 at least...but is that too low or high. I need some expert opinions as this is my first venture into Supra land!

Thx

Just a leak... Everything about the steering system is EXPENSIVE. Thought when I bought mine the power steering pump was just leaking a little....Changed the pump, the rack, the high pressure line and finally a little value which caused fluid to get sucked into the intake. I admit he is tight now by what it cost to fix him! Also I think this is a common problem.

Expensive meaning like $300 or like $2000

The high pressure hose alone is about 300

New possible Supra Buyer with Question (Update)

So, I got the VIN number and ran carfax, came up clean, but history ends in 2007. So I googled the VIN and I see the car showing up on numerous salvage auction websites.

The sites list the car as driveable and not damaged, but I don't understand why the owner would tell me he bought it from a relative if he didn't. Excuse my dumb questions, but what am I to make of all of this...I was able to get his price down to $2500, but Im not sure if I should walk.

I would walk, my guy had a lot of mechanical problems and it has cost me a LOT of money to fix but has a good body and frame.
