Steering damper/stabilizer?
What is up with the steering damper on the mk3? If they go bad, are they really a big deal? Or will it be better just to remove them all together? And why are they so hard to find? Any suspension tips are awesome, cuz thats the most important upgrade for my mk3, its very sluggish and floaty. Even with a new rack and pinion I haven't had a chance to put the control arm bushings on yet, but I got'em. Help my suspension!!!!!!!

i replaced mine and didnt really notice much of a difference. the biggest improvement i got was replacing the rack bushings. |
Yea I changed out the steering rack bushings and I've got control arms next but I was wondering if I could just get rid of the steering stabilizers all together, ya know.

The steering stabilizer is designed to help stop the steering wheel from jerking back and forth when the wheels go over rough or uneven surfaces (especially railroad tracks). I wouldn't recommend removing it.

Where should I buy some at? They are a hard find. Which is correct: Steering damper or Steering stabilizer? Some sites call them stabilizer and others dampers, and some are really expensive and some not, but I haven't seen any well known brands that make them yet. I know about all the main sites like Driftmotion, HPF, and supracarparts.

Magauto.com has it. I just searched "damper" and found it. But it is $158 and lists for $219. It does list as being the same part from 86 to 92 though so maybe you can try a used one.

Thanks a lot, that site is awesome. I can only find one at a time, not a pair. But oh well. I found some spacers that is suppose to give more steering angle, does anybody already have these on their suspension????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is only one damper on the non-progressive power steering rack and the progressive racks do not have one at all. |
The item description said it increases steering angle. Is that just for offset?

Are you searching in the section for oem toyota parts?
