Default Rebuild?

I have a 87 supra n/a with 190,000miles with motorknock. I'm wondering if I should rebuild the motor and put a turbo upgrade on. Or if I should buy a jdm 7mgte. I know a guy that would rebuild the motor for next to nothing just price of parts. so i'm wondering which would a smarter choice. Any feedback would be apprciated.

depends on your interpretation of turbo upgrade... completely new aftermarket or the gte turbo and manifolds

if someone is willing to rebuild urs for next to nothing, see if you can find a gte block and rebuild that, he probly won't know the difference, just a couple of extra holes here n there on the block

get a mhg, arp head studs, ct26 and manifold, ecu, harness, turbo cams, cam position sensor and that's all i can think of right now... it's getting late lol

Thanx for the input, i'm thinking mayb find a blown gte and rebuild that or just buy the turbo parts. and should i bore my motor out?

also should getting all that turbo stuff add up to alot? or would buying a jdm motor be cheaper.

It is always best to go back with original and same year stuff. So like she said, if you can find a complete 7mgte for your year you will have a better start, but there will be extra things you will need to make it all work. Guages, hoses for oil feeds and water lines, maybe different cable systems................etc. If you had the donor car right there it would help quite a bit.

Not trying to discourage you, but unfortunately it isn't just a plug and play.
