using 5spd parts from w58 to r154
Like the title says. What can I reuse if not all of it? Picking up an auto supra 7mgte, and currently have a 5 spd w58 supra 7mge. Just wondering if i can just swap my 5spd parts and I also have access to a r154 tranny. But if they dont fit, will just see if can bolt on the w58. I want to use the car with the turbo engine...newer model.
Let me know, i know its an old thread and sorry if this was answered somewhere else. Just real tired and searching through stuff is about to make my head explode. |

Hi, this post has been moved to its own thread in the MKIII Forum as it does not belong in the FAQ.
There will be few parts that can be used from a w58 equipped car onto a r154. Off the top of my head, I can come up with the master cylinder and the pedals (and I'm not 100% sure on the master cylinder). IMO, your best bet (if you don't have any huge power goals in mind) is to use your w58 components with the 7MGTE

thanks for the reply...yeah my goal is to get it to 350hp tops, probably dont have the budget to do that anyways lol. From what I have been told, the w58 should hold up fine.
Motor wire harness question: Can the 7mgte auto or 7mge manual wire harness be reused? or do i have to find a 7mgte manual wire harness? Unless i want to pay a ridiculous shipping fee, its hard to get stuff here in Hawaii, so its my best option just to reuse things. |

Yes, you can use your 7MGTE A/T wire harness and ecu for your 5 speed swap. You will have to wire your neutral safety switch connector so that the computer thinks you're always in neutral (allowing it to start; you should be able to wire that into your clutch safety switch so that it will only start with the clutch pedal depressed). You may also have to add some wiring for your reverse lights to work. These should be outlined in the forum, possibly in the thread that you originally posted in.
And yes, it's been stated that a healthy w58 should hold up to that power, provided that you're not too rough on it.
