What is the best way to clean grime off of head?
I'm installing a new head gasket but the head is covered in oil and grease so I want to get it all cleaned off. I have a gallon of purple power and brake clean, or I can pick something else up. What would be the best way?

scothbright pad and carb cleaner. brake part cleaner w/e. and as soft plastic paint scrapper. try to stay away from things that will scratch or distort the surface in anyway

Pay ten bucks and take it to a machine shop for a hot tank bath!

You should have the head checked for warpage at a shop anyways And they should clean it also.

do what i did, 55 gallon drum and a campfire lol. but seriously, have the head surface checked at a shop. i cant recommend having a hot tank job done, as when they did mine, it didnt take SHIZ off. i got it back, ran it thru my dishwasher, re-checked my surface, and it was ready for paint. u can check my album and see how dirty the head was b4 and how it looks now.
the only thing the the machine shop actually did, was machine the head surface, it was like 26 bux for me (add in 10 bux for them to "clean" it) degreaser will work great, just put it in a spray bottle, or better yet, do a hot water mix in a bucket, then let it sit, then hose it off. guess ud have to disassemble the head tho.. another mix that works great is the degreaser mixed 2:1 with bleach. that will literally take paint off a car. but be sure to have a mask and be in a WELL ventilated area if you like your lungs. spray that on, and hose it off. prolly will take 1 pass. good luck!

Also be sure to have it pressure checked. The owner before me cracked the head somehow. It took the mechanic a long time to find the leak. Well all of the seals did need to be changed Now he does not leak on my garage floor
