speedometer troubles
I was talking with the owner of the speedo shop in Tulsa. He claims there is nothing that can be adjusted. He wants to know it the decal on the speedometer was changed. My unit goes up to 140 mph which seems unusual for the 80's. How can I tell if it has been changed? The odd thing is the odometer seems accurate enough. This is a real poser to me.

If you have an iphone or a friend does.. there is a speedometer app that I used and it seems quite accurate. Try that. : ) (its the quickie cheapie way)

I use the same one with my iPhone because my speedo also doesn't work along with my fuel gauge. Or you can use tom-tom.

Thanks! However none of my friends or I have an I phone. I did equip the car with a GPS but do not think it does speed. The shop will charge me 50 dollars to check out my guy. The police here in Oklahoma are not very forgiving or tolerant, so have to be careful

IIRC, it's 150mph for pre89 MKIII's (last number is 140, there's a line after it to mark 150) and 160mph for 89+ MKIII's

A lot of shops can make or order an intermediary gear box... call around. Additionally, the speedo DOES have an adjustment for +/- 10% BUT the odometer will still be off by X%.

I have a stock 99 civic that the speedo is fast by about 5mph according to the gps and many of the box trucks I drive at work are off by a few miles. The supra was an expensive car in the 80's to buy and just because the speedo goes that high does'nt mean the car will get there. Just find a friend with a gps that measures speed(most do) and don't stand out in traffic by going faster than the flow or making erratic lane changes which really make you really stand out.

Well took him down to the speedo shop and the answer is
drum roll plus 2 mph at all speeds oops, lead foot has been blowing the doors off of SUV's on the turnpike especially in curves etc. Gee I can not really be do 90, right? Well there goes Plausible deniability. Tell you this is so much better than my old fire chicken
