Valve tapping noise 7mge

Hey guys I have a newly rebuild 7mge with 3-4k miles on it and but the head was just cleaned and checked out and put back togather by the shop with all the old parts with 220,000 miles on them. So now I think it has a valve tap on cold starts. then after 5-10mins when it start to get warm or oil pressure is up it goes away and doesnt come back in till its been sitting long and cools down. Also on first starts it blows a small puff of blue smoke out the back then no more smoke.

sounds like bad valve seals and improper shim sizes. they are prolly warming up after a few mins and soaking up the excess space.

prolly wanna do the seals and shims again, take it back to the shop and tell them whats up and they should redo it free. also tell them you want all the shim measurements to compare with stock specs.

gotta be real careful who u take these heads too, some places do it just like a SBC head and it doesnt work like that.

Well I was thinking of buying a new rebuild head With all new parts and get some 264 stage 2 cams and timing gears and do it all at the same time

if you got the dough for the cams itd be ok. i had to forgo my cams due to some cost issues.

a new head and tossing in some high lift cams would prolly be ok, but ull still have to re-shim the head, or at least check it.

Yeah I know about reshiming this time i will go to an import shop this time

definitely ask if they have dealt with 7m's before. even if they work on toyota motors they can still overlook the design differences for the 7m.
