upgrading sealed headlights to hid's or composite
im looking to upgrade my stock sealed headlights to a composite or hids and i was wondering what ppl have done and what theyve liked. im also looking to find out from where they got theirs and if they are happy with the quality of them. composite looks to be fairly cheap around $30 to $50 and hids around $100-$200 for a cheaper to decent setup. any info you have would be greatly appreciated :)

I got a set of housing off eBay 40$. Then a set of 30,000k HIDs blue for 120$ I love them the stock ones didn't light up all that good. I also like the mod with the Nsx projector headlights but u have to cut the rad support.

so i can buy the composite housings and then buy an hid setup?

Yea that's what I did. They take h4 bulbs

Or you could just save your money and buy a set of brighter bulbs since the stock ones tend to dim alot before burning out. You would be surprised at the difference. And also just because you can put in HID's does not mean they are legal or project the way they should. All the setups I have see simply allow for the use of a h4 bulb. If you look at oem HID's, they have the lense to properly disperse the more intense light. So yes your headlights will be brighter but you will also blind other drivers.

I had blue led fog lights and got pulled over for them and I asked the cop what about my 30,000 HIDs and he said they where good. I guess it depends on where u live and what cop u get I'm in maryland

i have heard ppl using 6 and 8k bulb but not 32k lol. would you recommend using 32k or would 6 or 8 be enough? i also see on the setups on ebay they have different sizes like 4x6 and 4x7. what size do i need to get? i measured my current sealed headlights but they are like
5 1/2x7 1/2 which doesnt match any of those sizes. |
The supra takes 7x6 head lights and the K is for the color of the bulbs the high the k the bluer and the lower the more yellow 6-8k will be white and will be the brightest

gotcha, makes sense.

Run DOT legal housings of better. The less you blind other drivers the less likely you are to get hit (yes, blinded people naturally turn INTO bright objects) and you're less likely to get noticed by police. Cibie E-Code housings are phenomenal and put the light where you need it much better than cheap ebay housings. While you're on stock lighting I suggest you rewire the headlights to allow more current. Look up "Daniel Stearn Lighting" for more info.... might be spelled "Stern". |
