C'mon now, drifting is the absolute coolest way to ruin your car (possibly life) but it sure does give a tickle in the pant region when you pull off a good drift (something about people witnessing it increases the effect). Maybe it is a guy thing.
I find almost any part on ebay and craigslist. Aside from a few dedicated vendors there are not many stores that sell anything other maintenance items for mk3 supras. I would think those two are your best options. |

Generally you want to find a private lot with no poles in it that doesn't get used at all, talk to the owner and give him a few bucks every month and you won't ever have problems... I haven't.
If you don't break 90 decibels and you're on private property US road laws don't apply, the only thing they can get you for if you're rightfully on private property is disturbing the piece trust me I know. Last edited by 916MKIIIx2; 05-27-2011 at 09:23 PM. |

Don't be too sure of yourself, a creative police officer can find violations especially if you display an attitude. Also the laws are different for the 50 states and territories. What might be ok in one location may not be in another. Oh make sure you are following all of the laws, you better be squeaky clean.
Oh lastly make sure the person giving "permission" actually owns the ground. You risk so much for your "fun".

i think weve all gotten off subject here.
transmission problems are the issue here, not when/where/how to drift. to me, it sounds like the main shaft bearings are going out in the tranny, or excessive gear wear due to fluid loss/lack of lubricity. another possibility would be output shaft bearings, but unlikely cuz it doesnt do anything in fourth. 1st, 2nd and 5th gear are on the input/output main shafts, 3rd gear as well (this is all for the r154) i havent been able to identify 4th gear on the main shaft(s) in my manual, but since its probably on a counter shaft and the only gear no making noise, id say its still main shaft bearings. my .02 cents

4th gear is 1 to 1. It connects the input shaft to the output shaft. Also my favorite gear to boost in.
If 4th gear is fine and all others struggle this would lead me to believe the problem is isolated to the counter shaft assembly in the trans if it's the trans at all. You could drain the fluid into a clean container and look for sparkles (metal shavings) with a flash light. A small amount of fine shavings is normal but not too much and definitely no chunks of anything. Heck, give it a whiff. Does it smell noticeably burnt? It wont tell you if its your problem for sure but it probably needs an oil change anyway. |
