I am a noobie and I need your help!!!

I just bought a 1987 Toyota Supra... 7MGE... This thing is a dog.. What do I need to do to get the HP restored? What first? AN engine swap?

There are a lot of reasons for an under preforming engine. You need to do a check of the engine to see what could be causing it. I have a 7MGE and it does ok for my needs. I am not destroying my car in the juvenile and so male thing of drifting. My guy performs best at about 4200 rpms and does not like to run under 2500 or so. He gets very slug like doing this.
So you need to do all of those things like checking pressure in the cylinders, spark plugs and all of that other stuff. I would suggest buying a good repair manual for your car. It will help you perform all of the diagnostic tests. Just changing out the engine is probably a waste of money.

Shit my almost stock supra is faster then a lot of other stuff with just a shimmed wastegate and FMIC at 10PSI, check the basics, air filter, fuel filter spark, and compression, change the fluids, and look for vacuum leaks, easy way to find vacuum leaks is to spray brake or injector cleaner around(make sure to cover electronics and dont spray that on your air filter. the engine will jump about 300 rpm if the cleaner hits an open spot in vacuum. Drifting isnt juvenile, its the most exciting way around a corner ^^

Maintain any car and it will maintain you!

PS. Turbo conversions arent hard on the N/A engine look it up, think it can cost around 1200 for a decent setup with a rebuilt CT26

916MKIIIx2, oh I agree with you on everything but drifting. I suppose the form on the track is one thing but going into a parking lot and letting loose is juvenile. It could also get you a ticket for restless driving and perhaps trespassing charges. Do remember the "sport" was created by a group of Japanese auto otaku. Most people including me think they are very weird at best.
Oh back on subject, a well maintained car is your best ticket to happiness than all of the extras invented. It is the small things that make a difference. A loose or broken vacuum line makes all of the difference. I would get your Supra running well before adding a turbo, my question would be why do you need all of that HP? If you race on the track ok but for street travel you are asking for trouble. My guy a 86.5 7MGE has the potential for getting me in trouble.

We use the parking lots because cops can't give you ticket on private property without getting permission from the owner of the lot first, and its safer to practice with cones then with curbs and dips, if anything using the parking lot is less juvenile than using the streets.

Im used to a Subie WRX, but I am not looking to get that same feel.. I just want my supra to perform the best it can and wanted to see what advice is out there since I am new to this car. I am pretty sure somewhere in the drivetrain is mostly suspect to the car being kinda slow. Have any of you guys had ur tanny rebuilt or replaced? How much is something like that?

I personally have had 2 auto's and 1 manual r154, never broke anything on any of the trannies and I don't go that easy on em, I do a lot of drifting, the most I have done is run out the clutch. Supra trannies are very robust, usually only break due to driver error or over abuse of HP IE 450+HP can do some work but even then I have seen a stock R154 last several years on a 550HP application. If its the tranny it will most likely throw a code, is the check engine light on?

Just be careful of the lot you pick. If we catch you in one of our Corps lots you will be facing time. I am not sure of your argument but most people with lots do not want you in them. Like my pal in his Firechicken, he took out a light pole and destroyed his car doing do. He is big into drifting, he lost control of his car. So what gives you the right to go into private property and endanger yourself and others?
Oh police can give you a ticket and need no permission. Reckless driving, endangering, improper use of a vehicle and that is off the top of my head. Look if you want to drift fine but do so in a safe place. If you want to destroy your car do so at a sanctioned track.
Oh my friend almost lost his life as well. Guess who had to bail the jerk out from jail?
