a/c
Well the a/c system was leaking somewhere. So I replaced all of the seals to make him nice and tight.
The a/c compressor failed completely not long after recharging the system. Everything seems to run in threes Oh how can I tell if it is the original alternator? Not sure what else can fail now, it has been failing by the weakest link up to now. Might as well just replace the entire systems, have not touched the brakes

Yeah, that happens with older cars. You can easily spend way more than the car is worth and still not fix everything. Years worth of contaminants probably killed the a/c compressor.
There is no way to tell if the alternator is "original", it could have been changed with a new or used oem part. If it looks old as hell and says toyota on it, it probably is original. They are some tough alternators though, I would test it before replacing it. Make sure the battery and wiring are in good shape, they both affect the life of the alternator. I'm pretty sure my alternator is original and it works perfect. The brakes on these cars are a breeze, and pretty cheap if you stay stock. In Chicago we go through brakes too often, it sucks. |

Just make sure you are using r134 and not r12 since it is ridiculously expensive.

Well pulled it apart and the dryer had fallen apart clogging the lines. Cleaned out the lines, recharged and he is frigid as the north pole.
Guess the system prevented the compressor from starting, got off easy on that! I need to replace the fuel tank sensor but on hold. Am changing out a lot of the trim seals during the painting process. Figured this is the best time to do this. Am off to Japan for 6 to 7 weeks. I am going to visit some parts people while there. Hopefully I got most of his mechanical troubles fixed. It is a never ending process. My advice is to check the entire system, again before changing out an expensive component.
