New Turbo Charger
Hello Supra experts.
I have a manual 87 Supra, turbo w/targo top. Need some advise on the turbo charger. I just bought a new turbo charger and noticed that the one that came of the car is a little different then the new one. Difference: The middle section where the oil and coolant connects to it is about 180 degrees off than the OEM one that I took off. Has anybody seen this before and what did you do to either correct it? Or, did you modify it? I didn't want to take the new one apart yet and try to spin the middle section to correct the alignment of it until I get some tips from you guys. I don't know if this is something easy to do or will I damage it in the process? I did some research on this and compared other Turbo Chargers being sold and all of them have the same alignment on the middle section like the new one I bought? Any help here would be great. Rob87 |

New Turbo Charger
Sorry, forgot to mention that it is a CT26. I just spoke with the vendor and they said it is easy to re-align the center portion by loosing the clamb and rotating the center piece. Also they mentioned that the clamb torque is around 20lb/ft.

If you havn't done it yet, just do exactly as they said. It is very easy now since both turbos are off the car and next to eachother. It was probably rebuilt in a shop that just rebuilds turbo cores all day, they dont dont know or care what it goes on and dont clock it in any particular position.
What vendor did you end up using? |

New Turbo Charger
I went with a vendor called Advanced Racing, bought the turbo on Ebay.
I did find out that when rotating the center piece of the turbo, you also have to loosen or removed the large C ring, by the way a pain to install the C ring back. Well it took me about 6 hours to reinstall the Turbo. I did have to modify the exhaust piping for the intercooler since the diameter was larger. Luckly I bought a few weeks ago new intercooler pipes so had to take my time installing that and at least now have all new intercooler pipes from the Turbo to the intercooler. When I get more time I will finish up the rest of the intercooler piping. |
