Default Im new here.. just bought an 88 na supra

Hey,
i just bought an 88 supra for $450 with 278,000 miles on it. it still runs good but the engine slightly knocks. i also have an 89 automatic turbo supra that i got for free that has no title but is in better condition than the 88 minus the motor, what should i do...

overhaul both cars...take the motor from teh 88 and either transfer it into the 89 and sell the shell...i know a bunch of guys here that want an mk3 shell, either that or overhaul the 88 motor and buy another 7m and swap it into the 89...well if u plan on keeping both cars...make sure u fix teh knock on teh 88 engine...itll be a bad idea to keep driving it like that...maybe you can rebuild the motor from teh 88 since it does have close to 300k on clock.. toyota motors are reliable but...300k is a lot...maybe you can build one up and have the other one as a daily driver....or build them both up at the same time....or do nothing at all...let us know wut you have in mind

That 300k motor is pushing it. Pull the turbo mtr and rebuild it, include mods along the way. Drop it into the 88 with the good title. Save the other car for parts. Remember, 'all' the parts on the 88 are 300k, diff, trans, steering rack, pump, etc.

yep... not sure if re-titling a car is difficult there but i would swap all the good 89+ parts into the 88 (cept the gearbox if its manual in the 88)

I would try to apply for a lost title and see if you can get the better car on the road. If so then do what it takes to do that, get it going and have fun with a very nice car. Rebuid the N/A and either keep it or sell it. If you sell it, you can use the money to buy some neat stuff for your turbo, maybe even a 3" elbow from that moderator woman.Put the 5 speed in the turbo and have fun. The rebuild on the N/A should be around $700.00 with machining. That will be new pistons and crank ground. Good time to put ARP bolts on the con rods and even ARP studs on the main caps and head.

Kepp us up to date,

Russ

Well...here in Calif...I did my own Valve job (sent head to machine shop), got all parts at wholesale (I manage a repair shop), and it still cost $800.
So...doing the bottom end has got to be at least that much.
And that's just a normal rebuild, nothing "race(y)".
