from what I remember from past posts that there are two types of fans you can install.. thermostat controlled ones and electrical switch types.. I believe the general consensus was the thermostat controlled ones are the way to go.
Am I close on this. It's been awhile.

If his existing fan is working then adding another isn't going to fix anything.

The fan clutch should get harder to spin the warmer it is (with the engine off). If it's as easy to spin when cold as it is when the engine is hot then it's bad. It should never spin completely freely nor refuse to be moved by hand.

There's also the infamous newspaper diagnosis technique but I'm not going to advise that myself... You can find it on YouTube. It's safe enough unless you're an idiot or happen to get startled and throw your hand into a moving belt...

i got a 87 turbo which came whith one electrical fan and the heavy mechanical fan, so i went to the junk yard and found a N/A 89 i belive and took the shroud and the twin electrical fans, i spliced a few wires, swaped the shrouds and now the fans work great. its was cheap easy and thankfully the 89 shroud can retrofit the 87
