wouldnt you also need a new ecu to let the engine know that it is now a manual transmision and not the automtic one still hooked up?

i dont think it matters, the manual supra and the auto supra run teh same fuel map and the redlines are pretty much teh same, though the auto redline is a couple hundred rpms lower than the manual...its the same ecu...all the functions are the same so there is no real need to replace it....though u can, it wont make much difference since its the same motor...

A few more things. I am at the point where I notice that I need the manual trans mount too. Also the shift boot is a little different. It appears that the upper two bolts for the manual shift boot fit the previous holes but the lower ones don't. You have to drill two new holes for them. Also the hole where the shifter comes through in the tunnel is a little smaller for the auto than the manual trans. You may need to trim the hole a little more to the rear, about an inch should do. So far though everything else seems to fit fine. Oh yeah I haven't hooked the speedo cable up yet, it is on the same side but may need the manual estension under the car, but it is late and I didn't get that far yet.
Replace the front and rear seals on the manual while you are at it. They are probably hard and starting to leak by now. Let me know how it goes. Russ |

How much does this all cost? I've been thinking lately that my 87 Supra would be a lot more fun if it was a stick..

-yeah a stick is alot of fun to drive.
(to WiseAssJester): the parts should fit seemlessly together very easily if they're of the same year and model. i would suggest buying the parts off of ebay, but my friend was able to find a car just like his in the junkyard (probably next to imossible with a car as uncommon as the supra) and just take the parts he needed off of it. your car was made exactly the same way as a car w/ a manual transmission is made in the vehicle assembly plant. since they are all similar, your car has extra room to the left of the brake pedal to fit a clutch pedal. it should be fairly easy lol |

Find a donor at the junkyard, that is really the only way to do the job right because of all the little parts you will need. You will have to mess with the wiring as the wires that plug into the auto are not the same as the one that plugs into the manual. You need to jump the wires that will enable the car to start and find the wire to use the reverse lights. Not a big problem as I found out yesterday, but it took some time. Also the brake pedal will have to be swapped because the auto pad is too wide. The clutch pedal assy does have the holes in the firewall, you just have to take out the cutouts.
