I like how nobody works when they're at work lol
When you changed the struts, did you check/replace the strut mount bushings as well?

sounds like bad control arm bushings possibly.
knocking is usually associated with bad bushings, bad ball joint or bad bearings. all have different variations of "knock" sound. youd hear a whirring sound at speed and a clicking at very low speeds if it was a bearing. if it was knocking, ud be in some smelly brown stuff (ask me how i know). ball joints click and/or knock when turning or during suspension articulation, so its possible but if you already checked then ur fine. bushings will present a heavy knocking noise, especially when compressing the suspension, depending on where the bushing has cracked. ive had this happen a few times, and normally they arent hard to replace. the other thing it may be is sway bar bushings so check them too. if its the bushings, get a prothane front end bushing kit. itll stiffen up the front end nicely and last longer than oem.

I have this problem as well. I read on here somewhere that it could be some sort of "steering stopper". Basically it's a nylon cover that goes over your steering stop bolt. They said that it can fall off or rub off with age. Not sure if I'm right so u might want to look into it some more buddy.

if ur talking about the bump stops, yes there are alot of yotas with them. my truck has them as well. but i get no "knocking" sound from them. more an eary creeking noise, only extremely high pitched and ear piecing.
you can purchase new bump stops online. they dont last long unfortunately.

Check the steering stops. The rubber part tends to disappear after a couple decades allowing things to contact each other with the wheel fully turned. It will cause the noise while driving with the steering wheel completely turned to the lock (you'd either be drifting, parking or doing donuts). Its an awful noise.

yay more people commented! but yea mines only when i turn left....and its a heavy knock, also when i turn right, and turn the wheel all the way it kinda creeks? all the passenger front wheel >_<
lol also, the wheels i have are over sized yes, but Ive eaten some of the plastic wheel well near the bottom and theirs some sort of reservoir behind it. so also steering stoppers? Last edited by Awyman18; 09-26-2011 at 09:29 PM. |

Think the reservoir is probably your washer fluid tank.

control arm bushings (believe supra only has lower bushings), end links (for sway bar) and sway bar bushings (these mount to the unibody and are the actual "stiffening" point) and last but not least, strut mount bushings/bearings. unless you have the electronic suspension, i believe.
as far as my steering stops go, no, i cannot grease mine. they are a replacable part. here are some from ebay, they are the more expensive ones ive seen. and i do believe that the resevoir you are seeing is the washer fluid resevoir, as btwilson said.
