You're going about it the right way... make sure it's all solid BEFORE trying to squeeze more out of it. I'm just making sure all the details are posted (both for yourself and for future readers). The zip ties are what you'll want to use on the vacuum hose.

The only problem i have with the zip ties for the vacuum hoses is taking them off after if i want to make any changes. I would most likely have to cut them and then i would risk cutting the vacuum hoses as well. suggestions?

Nah, as long as the edge of the nipple is still smooth (not corroded and rough) the vacuum line will still slide on and off, just with some extra tension. I've yet to have a silicone hose not just slide back on even with the zip tie on it... like I said the stuff is slick... in a bad way for this kind of application. Besides, you don't get a choice really; Do it now or do it later after getting pissed about numerous vacuum leaks.
