7mge header?
okay i know i can use a 7mgte header on my 7mge with some custom fab., move o2 sensor to fit, a little grinding on collector end and possibly some on the block end. what im wondering is what do i do with the hole where a turbo would go im thinking maybe i could just cut out a piece of metal to fit over the hole and drill some bolt holes and just cover it with the custom made piece of course with a gasket. Is this the best/only way to do this?

On the 7mgte the exhaust gases leave the head and go into the manifold then into the exhaust turbo spooling it and then out through the elbow and down pipe. By blocking what I think you are talking about you would make a exhaust plug. You can still get the pacesetter or obx for the 7mge but they require modification and I don't really believe it is worth the hassle for the min. gains. I did mine a while ago in exhaust wrap since you can no longer use the heat shields.

aftermarket headers are not worth the buy in my opinion. i got mine for free with a bunch of parts so thats why im using it. plus im supercharging in the future so it will help a lil with that.
hey 907mge, how many strap clamps did you use? this 3 at a time crap from the parts store sucks.

I really can't remember. But I bought them off of summit racing because it was cheaper. They are the one time use ones though.

gotcha, thanks. the only real savings i can see with the headers are the weight. which, 10-15 lbs? the only way i see it making a huge difference is if you were a road racer or auto-x'er and were restricted to N/A and weight was your only ally after you did all other bpu's

wasn't really looking for power ive read up a little on it and herd that it will give your exhaust a more throaty sound but im probably just going to get an HKS muffler and see what it will do for me first. or do your know of any mufflers that sound good on this car? Im looking for something really smooth and deep

gotcha. it will for sure affect the sound, but too what end, i do not know.
ive had good luck with dynomax mufflers and some double chambered oval ones (dont know what the brands were, two or three off brand ones). like i said, got mine for free, and the longer primaries will benefit low end tq especially after the supercharger addition.

I have the pacesetter header, 3in cat, 3in hks dual tip exhaust and the whole thing is very quiet. Although the header probably has an effect on sound i'm sure the muffler has more of an effect. Just listen to any honda civic with a trash can muffler and stock system.
Although mine is a 7mge and this is a 7mgte, it still sounds about the same with the turbo keeping things a little quieter. http://www.suprastore.com/hkstuex19to1.html Last edited by 907mge; 12-01-2011 at 09:35 PM. |

"smooth" sound from an N/A? LOL.... no. They'll always sound like a Honda's big daddy with gas. A deeper or throatier tone can be accomplished with a better design of resonator (removes the fart sound.... it's there... even if you don't hear it from the driver's seat) and a GOOD straight through muffler. Larger diameter piping causes more of an increase in volume than drop in tone, IMO. My preferred combination is an AeroTurbo resonator (a NO RESTRICTION Helmholtz resonator) and Borla muffler. Don't go larger than 2.5" on the piping. The header has the LEAST affect on the sound of the MKIII's exhaust.
