1G-GTEU Mods
Hi all,
Ok, got some very good feedback on what to do with the engine (1G-GTEU 2.o) and such. Just need a little help on some specifics... 1. Downpipe - which brand/type do you prefer and why? Any hard stats? eg. "Tanabe straight downpipe adds +15HP for sure." 2. Intake piping to turbo's - I've been told that these are extremely restrictive as well. However, I'm having trouble finding aftermarket piping. Any links/info would be awesome. 3. Blowoff Valve - I have the stock BOV and I want to up that immediately. Again, brand/type and why please. 4. Does anyone know about VPC's? (Vein Pressure Converter) I've heard that adding a aftermarket BOV can cause stumbling in between shifts and bypassing the MAF sensor using a VPC will smooth this out. 5. Does disconnecting/removing the EGR truly prevent super-heating of the 5 and 6 piston valves? Sorry for all the questions, but I get paid soon and I want to start ordering everything to build it right the first time ASAP!! Thanks ahead of time, -=Stan=- P.S. It's a 1990 TT Supra Aerotop Widebody. Don't know if that helps, but there you go... ^^

wouldn't know about USA downpipes etc... not familiar with them
intake piping.. only real way is custom, but they still can make power before they kill the engine i'd love to see your stock bov the 1g didn't come with one yep richness & stumbling happens but you can get adjustable bov's which can help with this altho not eliminate it if you have a 1ggte you don't have EGR so does that save some money

mm...i wish i can help you with your downpipe situation...i have a custom stainless steel downpipe that is almost similar to the hks downpipe...but its modified for better flow...or at least i hope its better flow, the stock intake to the turbo is restrictive, but getting a cai or a short ram intake bolted on should help the flow or you could just by the filter cone and bolt it to the front of the compressor which will eliminate any restriction of air going to the turbo, for bovs i have a ssqv from hks...cause it looks nice and it sounds nice and i got it brand new for a quarter of the retail price, vpc...i dont think u need one, i dont remember intalling one when i changed bovs....ill have to get back to u on that one

for the intake & downpipe check: www.cooleze.com
if you want a divorced downpipe or just another option on a regular dp check here: http://www.bicperformance.com/products.htm as for BOV, I like the Greddy Type S, on the 7m motor it does make it run kind of slugish unless you have the Apexi SAFC, anyway go to www.blowoffvalves.com here the clip of the Greddy Type S with 7m motor & intercoooler hardpipes....sounds way cool |

Thanks...
I appreciate the response guys/gals.
I've decided on getting a Greddy BOV Type S. Suprra_girl, sorry about that. I meant to say BV (for Bypass Valve) instead of BOV. Make sense now? As for the stumbling or hesitating problem after installing a BOV, I plan on fixing that with a Lexus/Riemer mod. The one where you use the Lexus LS-400 AFM (aka MAF) and a set of 550CC fuel injectors. Has anyone here successfully done this mod? If so, please give me your opinion on the final driveability of this. I know it runs extra rich, so how would I go about adjusting the fuel/air mixture? As for the EGR question, it wasn't for my engine specifically, I was just wondering if it actually did cause superheating in the chambers/valves. Seems funny to me... Anyways, thanks again all. -=Stan=-

Stan...
please confirm you have a 1GGTE 2L twin turbo if so... the lexus upgrade does not apply nor the bic dump pipe there is a 1GFE i believe in some sort of lexus.. whether that uses a 0-5v flapper i doubt but i guess you could find out (that is a v12 tho ) and with regards to your relief/bypass valve... the 1G doesn't have anything remotely similar to a bov.. they didn't come with one have you got an engine shot of urs? also the cooleeze intake pipe wont work on the 1g either unfortunately let me know if you got pics

I have a stock 1G TT Z20 and I was hoping you could help me out since you live close.
I have a lot of cosmetic damage, mostly on the front from a drunk driver, but the engine was rebuilt in October and the 12s spool up like a dream. So I want to start adding in the lower costing mods until I can one day swap a big single 2J in it. I wouldn't mind starting with downpipe/catback 3". The only issue I've heard of is the body might be slightly longer than yours even though it's on the same MKIII frame. |
