7m replacement swap problems
my chassis is an 87 turbo but from what i can gather i have an engine from 89-92 since the motor mounts were thicker and were slightly different. so i took my old mounts off the existing block and replaced them. They lined up perfect. Now the problem im having is i cant get enough clearance (3 inches max) to drop the engine down to the existing mounts. The best i can come up with is that the brake booster is causing the resistance. This is my first time swaping the engine so i might just be a total idiot. I would appreciate any tricks or ways to get the engine in without having to pull it back out and try all over again.

unfortunately thats prolly what you gonna have to do. something is caught or binding, and you need to figure out what it is. something could get broken, which isnt fun, especially if its wires or a bracket or hose.
pull it out, make sure everything is out of the way, and check the oil pan too. if you pull the upper and lower intake manifold and the exhaust manifold youll be able to get alot better look at where your clearances are.

Oil pan and oil pump. Also, look to see what crankshaft is in that new engine. The redline for the 7M crank is lower than that of the 6M crank (which was found in pre89 and about half of the '89 year MKIIIs). Really it's not a major consideration unless you plan on kicking the crap out of the redline governor on a daily basis.
