Actually it seems that I may have blown the head gasket this morning so, its all coming out and apart this week. Uncle said I could use his cherry picker and an engine stand so it wont be done anyone but me and my Grandfather. Ill put some pics up as soon as I get it all apart.

Ahhh the beauty of buying a car from someone you who doesnt know anything about the car....

They're the same.

Even if you're doing this yourself you should have the block and head inspected by a shop. If you do the valve stem seals make sure you don't rotate the valves as they're likely out of round enough to leak if they're not seated the same way as when they came out.

EDIT: The TSRM will walk you all the way through the rebuild. There are a couple little things it assumes you already know but for the most part you shouldn't have too many question as long as you follow it closely. I STRONGLY recommend you avoid using a third party publication such as Haynes for direction in this.

TSRM? I was gonna go buy a chilton and do it. My grandfather is an engine guru, as long as he has the tighten specs then he should be able to put it back together but what is a TSRM?

I've seen these engine screwed up by so many "guru's" my blood pressure spikes whenever I hear the word...

TSRM = Toyota Service and Repair Manual. Chilton/Haynes are crap; They leave out a lot of important info, try to cram in info from various generations of the model even if they're completely different. The TSRM and TEWD (Toyota and Electronics Wiring Diagrams) are year specific, from Toyota and VERY detailed... Many novices do just fine as long as they follow it closely. There's an online version of the TSRM and TEWD for a '90 model... most of it is the same; Enough for rebuilding the block anyway. http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/
