Hood Release (switch/sensor?)
Hey guys. This is my first post on here since I purchase an 87 7M GE a few weeks a go.
I saw this guy just hanging out underneath the hood and can't figure out for the life of me where it attaches. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

What color are the wires that the harness is plugged into? I don't recall the alarm's hood sensor being a mechanical switch... but I haven't had any reason to take apart a hood latch in a long time. Does the stock alarm arm?

Didn't know there was a stock alarm. There isn't a battery currently so I haven't anyway of checking. Any idea where/how it mounts?

If it is the sensor for the stock alarm it'll mount to the hood latch assembly... underneath or internally. What are the wire colors leading up to the plug that it clips into?

If it's for the stock alarm then the wires before the harness connector will be violet with red stripe and the other white with a black stripe. If not then it's not a stock component. I can tell you that the location where it's route through is not a location for any stock wiring. I suspect that it's either a hood sensor for an aftermarket alarm/remote start system or a DIY fix for the stock alarm.
If your stock alarm doesn't arm when the car is locked (the stock system didn't have a wireless remote, it is armed and disarmed by locking/unlocking the car door with the key) then you may want to try taping the switch in a closed position and try to arm the stock alarm. The "Security" light on the dash will light up once armed.
