w58 or r154?
ive been looking for a turbo 5 speed to replace my automatic. i have the pedals and slave cylinder off another car but am having trouble finding an r154 trans under a grand. i have a w58 out of a n/a supra and am probably gonna put that in but i had some questions about the clutch and flywheel. i am going to install a lightweight flywheel and a new clutch. i was told i would have to use a turbo flywheel but an n/a clutch? anybody have any correct or have tried advice on what will work?

You see them forsale on forums usually about every week. Anywhere from 350-800 depending on condition, rebuilt, etc. Shipping could get expensive but maybe a 100 mile drive or so would save you some decent cash.
Check out the other supra forums as well. I'm starting to see a lot of good stuff go for pretty cheap, I assume due to the economy. |
I'm pretty sure you'll need the N/A flywheel too... If memory serves me correctly there are clearance issues with the W58's bellhousing and the R154's flywheel. You may be able to run the N/A clutch disk in the R154, but I think that's the end of it.

Guys it would be easier to buy an car already with a 5 speed and turbo. What you are doing is an act of self punishment.

I've been toying with the idea of converting my automatic to manual.. and yes I did think it would be ezier to just buy a 5 speed supra. But whats the fun in that =) |

the only reason im converting it is b/c i have an entire n/a manual parts car to switch the parst off of, and b/c this car is rust free and its in really good shape.
so if im going to use the n/a 5 speed stick with n/a flywheel and clutch? |
