inter cooler upgrade
im looking to upgrade my crapy factory intercooler and im looking at this one any idia if this would work well
http://www.siliconeintakes.com/produ...bb188e9859c37d i remember one of the senior mems likeing this website so i looked into it .whith this size intercooler would there have to be any modifications to fit into factory location( i dont mind minor cuts and welds but i want to keep the front steel beam behind the bumper)? also if any one has ever blue printed a factory unit could i get a copy to compare size options, or if any one has bought and installed this unit could you share your expirience |
i bought one very similar, i havnt put it in yet, but i believe very little to no modifications...i mean, ur probably going to have to make ur own brackets, but besides that i dont think u will have to relocate anything.

Oil cooler relocation
The Spearco style is a tight fit. I dont recall any major dismemberment required to get it in the car. However, I think the oil cooler requires relocation.

ok thanks for the input, are the intakes big enough or to big for factory pluming

get hard pipes..lol like metal piping, makes no sense to upgrade the fmic, but keep the plastic restrictive nasty crap

well true...lol but will 2.5" piping reduce the responsiveness? Because isnt the stock plastic piping 2.5"? or is it 2"?
|
what i meant to say was will it fit FACTORY SIZE pipe, not that i would reuse the old pipes, eventualy i want the same diamiter pipes but after market ones

so what what would be the next step to factory pipes. i know i would need 2 pipe reducers to run this intercooler. im looking for a fast responding motor and what cre said about diamiter is just a perfect explanation, ( i know some of it because on my vintage race bikes im always messing whith velocity stacks for variouse tracks long and short.). i dont quite have the money for new intercooler pipes but i would like to optimize the facotry ones any idias?

u could simply get 2 couplings and some watever there called...the circles that have a bolt of them that u can buy at any parts store...uuugh failure....and slap those on the fmic. But im going 2.5" piping, slightly bigger, less restrictive, but not so big the engine is gonna be like WAFGJABFKJABFUAFKJ is happening lol and if u get spearco style fmic's (which we did) the pressure drop is practically nothing, and it will still be about the same level of responsiveness.

in the future i would upgreade the pipeing to a bigger diamiter in the future. since my goal is 550rwhp ill need about 600 to reach my goal. in the futer ill go 2.75 inch pipeing whith a bigger more modern turbo from garret but at the moment ill stick whith factory diamiter but i will optimize the factory setup. since at about 200hp per liter you start to lose responsivness i can worry about bigger diamiter later down the road when i have more cash to put into it
