rack and pinion converson
after a few google pages of randome clicking i fould out this website from the ukrain every tab from engine to suspension had a little somthing i dident know
http://www.mk3ukr-supra.net/home.htm found alot of its info helpfull but one thing cought my eye above all he says that people would convert the mk3's rack and pinion to that one of an rx7 or a mustang, i would imagine the only reson for this is for better steering respone. on his suspenson tab at the bottom he cover this but what i would like to know is how much truth there is to this and how practical would this be? any thoughts

I wouldn't say the mustang rack was any better.... cheaper to service, a couple more option (as far as gearing) and it's a manual steering rack, not power so it's a bit lighter. There aren't a lot of people who've done it. I've never heard of any model RX-7 rack being swapped in. I like the progressive power steering found in later MKIII's. I find the lesser assistance at higher speeds I find highly agreeable (less likely to fly into oncoming traffic when you sneeze at 90MPH).
I see that he switched out the bumper support for a light weight aluminum bar.... I had always wondered if I could fine one close enough in size to swap onto my MKIII with little effort.

How the steering is geared does make a difference and can be adjusted in almost any system. The weight reduction isn't anything to write home about though when you're talking about giving up the assistance in a 3500lb beast. In a Miata, sure, why not... Not a huge difference once you hit 5MPH.

NOt sure why people want to mutate Supras? If you want a Chevy, Ford or whatever buy it. With the steering system you take a chance of making the fatal mistake. The one that will remove you from the gene pool. There are lots of Mustangs on the market. I see them abandoned on the side of I 44 on the way to work.
As young people you take your chances. I see replacing components from other cars is dangerous at best. There are those of you that can do a good job but nature always sides with the hidden flaw.

I wouldn't really butcher my mk3 for a litltle more options. I would like to make my steering more accurate/responsive. I read how to take the excessive slack out on the FAQ's but I would like to go a little further.
Any suggestions
