Mk3 supra radiator fans
Hello I've got a 1990 Toyota supra turbo. It's got the 7mgte motor. I was wondering when I bought the car it came with some fans that the guy took out . These fanshave wires on them and when I researched it came out that it was the radiator fans. But I've also got another fan that runs on a belt now I'm confused because the cars got aluminum radiator and those fans with the electrical connectors don't fit on between the fan on the belt and radiator what should I do

the 7mgte came whith a mechanical fan but also ( depending on the year) one or two electrical fans on the drivers side of the radiator. i myself installed a aluminum road raceing radiator for cheap insurance agenst overheating at events. i would reinstall the oe fans if you have some lying around

Please post a couple pictures. I don't understand what you're saying at all.
All 7M's had a mechanical primary (white plactic blades). All had a small 6 or 7 inch aux electric fan in the upper left corner of the radiator. Models '89 and later had a SECOND 6 or 7 inch aux fan on the bottom left below the other aux fan. THEN ALL GTEs have a 10 or 12 inch assist fan between the A/C condenser and the radiator (hidden).

ok let me decipher... maybe
when you obtained your car you had a new aluminum rad put in.. you have two small fans that are not attached and are causing you concern. you also have a black rounded piece of plastic covering the radiator.. yes? k. those two small fans are auxiliary rad cooling fans.. there thermostat controlled (hence the wires.) and kick on when the car reaches a certain temp. are they needed..? They don't hurt.. its always good to have a cooled radiator. The black piece of plastic covering your rad is called a fan shroud. It directs the air produced by the mechanical fan. (the one attached by pulleys. Hence mechanical (no wires) ) and this is needed to assure proper air flow in the engine bay.. DO you absolutely need it, no. but will see an increase in engine bay temp. The reason the mechanic took it out is most likely fitting issues due to the new radiator. The increase in cooling you will see by installing them again might be marginal with your aluminum radiator. but if you got room to slide those puppys in there they connect to little connectors on the bottom someplace. give it a check, its been awhile since ive been under my supra. hope this helped. OH your shroud should either have one or two openings on the drive side.. those are were the small fans go in.

The fan shroud helps most at idle and low speeds where the air isn't being pressed through the radiator. While at idle or moving slowly it's easier for the fan to pull in surrounding air and recirculate a large amount of the hot air in the engine bay. While in a car that is in excellent condition this may not be a problem on a car whose cooling system is running poorly this could be enough to cause a significant overheating problem and may lead to damage. Actually, there are many cars where the fan shroud is an absolute necessity no matter how good the condition of the car.
Yes, the Supra has a lot of fans.

That's the fan shroud. See posts above for explanation of why you should have one
