Pulling engine?
Ok guys,
I'm pulling the MGE out of my 87 mkIII. So I'm going to pull it trans and all, as i gather that seems to be the method of choice, and it will make my job easier. so 2 quick starting questions 1. It looks like I can just leave the intake stuff (excluding the intake plumbing of course) in place while I pull it, is that correct? and a good idea? 2. where are you pulling the exhaust? I assume at the collector, you are not pulling the manifold are you? Thanks' Usually this is my brothers job, but he's 800 miles away, and we have another lemons Race coming up in 3 weeks Carl |

Yup, leave the intake on. You can pull the exhaust at the collector, I've also unbolted the manifold and tied it out of the way (not the preferred method). Overall, these engines/trannys are fairly easy and straightforward to pull

PS pump? or lines?
Thanks, i appreciate the help,
now for question #2. I am thinking you leave the PS pump on - correct? so you would pull the input and outlet lines? I see the one on the right side, pretty straight forward, but wheres the other one? Inquiring minds want to know! |

I think it may be easier to just remove the pump from the engine, same with the AC (if still equipped). That way you're not opening the system, leaking fluid, etc. I, however, have always pulled the pump with the engine. IIRC, I usually remove the line at the pump attached by a banjo bolt and the low pressure return line.
Another helpful hint on pulling these engines (if you don't know already), you can remove a panel behind the glove box, unplug the wiring harness from the ecu, push the wiring harness through the firewall, and pull the engine with the harness still attached.

Thanks,
I will look at it both ways, probably like you said just pull the pump. since i have removed all of the interior, I can easily pull the wiring harness from the ECU, and pull it through, that was my plan. Quote:
