Default Rear Main - W58 drop

Okay so my rear mains leaking pretty good, gotta do it. I have a 86.5 NA manual, can I just drop the tranny off the motor from underneath? I'd really rather not pull the whole motor if I don't have too..

You can but unless you have access to a lift and 10 feet of wobble socket extensions it's not really any easier... Not in my opinion.

Tricks.... Yup, a lift and about 10 extensions to reach the upper bell housing bolts. If I remember correctly, you'll need to loosen the motor mounts too and a transmission jack... Oh, and as always, drain it first. Getting it back in, with everything lined up and properly torqued is the best part.

I'm not really kidding about this. Without a lift it's utterly miserable.... with a lift it's well, only a little better.

Here's Toyota's instructions on it. Read through it thoroughly before you start.
