Shifter Bushings

I have SO much play in my shifter, so I thought maybe replacing the bushings would help. (Seriously, when I'm in gear, the shifter has almost as much play as when it's out of gear. O.o) But anyway, I've read up on the SOGI mod some, and I considered doing it, but I think I'm just going to replace the bushings first and see how I like it after that.

Anyway, my question is, will I still need the same bushings that are used for the SOGI mod? I've read about the fabled "green bushing from Toyota", is this the only one I'll need?

Same bushings, the SOGI mod doesnt affect that part of the shifter. Replace the green one in the tranny and the white one on the shifter, you should notice a nice improvement.

Changed my bushing and it made a huge difference.

Do I have to order these from a Toyota dealer? I can't actually find them, only people talking about them. Does anybody have any part numbers for them by any chance?

Marlincrawler sells nylon replacements for the bushing and shifter seat. The bushing is pretty much the same as stock but the seat is stiffer. Also note there is a third bushing built into the interface armature inside the extension housing.... The part that the end bushing of the shifter fulcrum sits in. That armature (labeled here as "HOUSING") has a metal sleeve with rubber surrounding it cast into it. A fair number of people have found that the aforementioned shifter seat and fulcrum cap/bushing were not the problem but the disintegration of the rubber around the receiving sleeve was the issue. There was someone on SM selling a replacement kit to repair it.

The green seat may be purchased from any place which sells OEM Toyota parts: Your local dealer, www.ToyotaWorld.com, www.HorsepowerFreaks.com, www.DriftMotion.com . The fulcrum's bushing may be purchased from any of those sellers or www.MarlinCrawler.com . The stiffer seat may be purchased from MarlinCrawler (note that while it will work in either transmission, the seat is a tighter fit in the W58 transmission and may need some light sanding around the circumference to ease installation). I can't remember who sold the kit to rebuild the extension housing's armature.

The bushing which goes on the shifter's fulcrum is 33548-31010. I can't find the part number for the seat at the moment. I'll post it when I have a chance to look it up if no one else posts it before then.

Thanks very much, cre. I believe I found the part number for the green seat as well. It looks like it is 33505-35020. I figured I'd go ahead and post it in case anybody refers back to this thread in the future.

Thats it! BillyM's bushing kit has the replacement for the extension housing's linkage. Thanks for posting that.
