What rings should I get?
Im in the process of reassembling my engine. I honed the cylinders and I am replacing the rings. stock bore. Every time i search all that pops up are the NPC. They are pretty cheap so thats why I'm skeptical. I found some CP rings for 130 but I dont really know if i need to spend that much. I just dont want to end up getting crappy rings and tearing the engine apart agian. Any help would be great.

So no one can tell me anything about what rings are good and what rings are bad?

From my experience there's nothing wrong with NPC. They're fine for a mildly built engine. If you're looking for a lot of power get over the price and forget about cheaping out on any internal components. They're pretty much OEM quality. I've never noticed any machining flaws or inconsistencies in any of the sets I've installed.

do u think a set of the npc's would be ok then? cause if i get that set i get rings, pistons, and connecting rods

Their pistons aren't bad either but again don't expect them to withstand anything the stockers wouldn't be able to handle. If you can find them you can get them with a ceramic coating on the crown or you can get a plain set coated for some extra durability. But like I said, if you're looking for bigger numbers do it right the first time or do it all over again in 6 months. If you look around you'll find they're quite popular for all makes out there... There are a few big threads about them on SM and SF. Not many people have had problems with them until they start really pushing things hard.

hey cre i was also wondering if there is any pressure behind the rear timing cover. I would have to assume there really isnt because from there it goes up into the head

Enough pressure to create a very nasty oil leak if you forget to place packing/FIPG where the plate meets the head and the HG sits on top (see: TSRM > Engine Mechanical > Cylinder Head). I don't see how it would see the full pressure of the oiling system but it does have some pressure.

Oh, I made that mistake myself once.... ONCE. It's a terrible reason to have to redo a headgasket job.... granted it's MUCH easier the second time it's still not worth it.

lol the third time should be no problems then. only one way to learn, lots of reading or lots of mistakes:dunno:
