Default Engine Stalls

Hi,

My 89 turbo is hard to start when hot...but when i tried to start it with a cold engine, it starts immediatley! Yesterday another problem...the engine stalls at iddle, if i rev it, it works fine, but i gues it's misfiring because i hear the sound of gas exploding on the tail pipe...Any suggestions??

What troubleshooting have you done so far? Are the spark plugs good? Spark plug cables? Any diagnostic codes stored in the ECU? Is there oil in the spark plug galley? Have you inspected the ISCV (Idle Speed Control Valve)? Is the car stock or have you made modifications?

No codes stored on the ECU. I will replace the spark plugs. The only modifications i did, was removing the stock air filter by a cone filter, directly attached to the MAF.

One other thing i forgot to mention was that when i shut down the engine there was a strang noise coming from the charcoal cannister.

Is it normal to be hard to start an hot engine?

It's possible that the charcoal canister isn't functioning properly anymore. It charcoal may not be absorbing the fuel fumes and regulating their release into the system at an appropriate rate. You can try disconnecting the vacuum tube temorarily and plugging the vacuum nipple where it runs on the intake to see if that helps. If it does help you should also inspect the bi-metal vsv which is supposed to be in the middle of the vacuum line from the charcoal canister to the throttle body. If the charcoal canister is bad you can usually get one that's still good from a newer model Toyota at a salvage yard for all of $5 to $15. I am not in favor of deleting the system and just letting your gas evaporate.... the stuff costs a good amount and I intend on using every drop I spend cash on.

No, it's not normal at all.

Other possible causes include:
Heat soaking air flow meter
Bad ECU coolant temp sensor
Ignition timing not set properly
Fuel pressure bleeding off too quickly once the engine is stopped
Bad cold start injector time switch
Leaking injector
Oil in spark plug galley (will cause a power loss across the board but will be most noticeable at low RPM and when starting the car)

I guess i found the problem...apparently a simple one. A small tube that was supposed to be attached to the air intake (just next to the MAF sensor), was disconected! After i reconnected it the engine stop stalling and no more misfiring. However, the bad news is, i removed the spark plug from cilynder n?6 and i found oil on the galley...any ideas of what the cause might be? A bad valve cover gasket??

The power steering vacuum line.... yup, that could do it.
