oem electric fan hookup to aftermarket fans
Hello,
I need to know if the oem electric fan hookups on the 89' supra turbo are useable on aftermarket electric fans. -will they run at power? -Will they turn on/off when they need to? -Will they keep it cool?  -Upgraded to tri-core radiator -two 10" electric fans at 2,250 rpm and 1.730 cfm. Amp draw is 12.70 -The new fan wiring is getting spliced into the oem connector (makes for easy removal.) -The oem fans are little 5" fans that sit on the driver side of the radiator (for those who haven't seen that setup before.) -I'm no longer running the fan clutch. No, they're not usable. The trigger temps are not right and the wiring isn't up to supplying the heavier load of larger fans.
Don't repurpose the OEM connectors for this. Just go to the parts store and buy a set of weatherproof connectors. They won't be corroded and you can accommodate the heavier wiring which I really hope you've run from the battery to the relay to the fans.

How exactly should i wire them? Is there a way that i can set it up to run when the engine is off? That why it can cool off between runs.

Jegs has a good wiring kit with relays for dual fans easy to wire up comes with thermo switch. For on at 200 and off at 185.

I replaced my radiator last year and went with electric fans as well. Heres my thread on it. Cre helped a ton on it. Theres also a long on the first page in the post for the temperature relay kit i bought from summit. And Cre also explained what wire to tap into.

you can also check the factory sensors on the thermostat housing and look for the 12v source (at full temp) and run a basic bosch style relay to activate the fans. I did this to my car.

The OEM switches for the A/C aux fans don't come on until 230+ degrees and they open while temps are still above 200 degrees. It's a crap idea to use those for anything else.
