New here: Turbo Supra mk3
Hi all, so i was kinda looking into a supra mk3 turbo. and the thing is that, i am new to this supra theme. i havent heard any major problems with the 7mgte except for the HG that needed to be replaced. other than that, its a pretty reliable car. before i do buy one, i just wanna know the general problem with these cars and what i should look for.
also i heard the 5spd turbo mk3 gets about 25mpg??? thankssss |

Yeah so the biggest issue is the HG blowing. And I would look for any leaks like oil leaks or coolant leaks. Not really sure what else to look for other than what anyone should usually look for in a used car. But as for the mileage I get about 18-20mpg city and I don't have that much of a heavy foot... But I love my car so I don't care so much on the mileage haha

There are a lot of small problems associated with any car its age. With your area and the heavy use of salt I would be concerned most with rust. Rust on these car can be hidden by trim and other body parts.

The Supra MK3 has issues with rust in the spare wheel well hold, rear quarters, body trim (the trim that runs around the center of the vehicle can have rust starting at the holes that the "pins" run into), rear wheel wells, and other miscellaneous spots (my gas tank had rust pin holes from storage with an empty tank).
Same as any other car really, you just have to look very well. 7M has a head gasket issue, but isn't a guaranteed fault.. just something that is common. Once corrected properly, is not really an issue. However... the word "properly" is important... few do it that way. Bottom line however, its unique, fun, and getting rarer as the years go by. Almost everyone notices a Supra on the road. Its just what it is... but if you dont have a second vehicle, a lot of money and/or time and good mechanical and/or body skills... I wouldn't really recommend it unless you just love the car. as I do.
