Knocking in the engine..
Hey everyone, I'm new to this whole experience. I have a 1986 Supra, I bought it cheap , but now i'm discovering why.
As I was driving it on the freeway there was a low clicking sound coming from the engine, but as I kept going the noise became louder. When I finally got home, I check it out and the clicking is now a knocking. I've been told it's a rod i've also been told that it might be a piston. But no one seems to know for sure. I've been getting offers from people that want to just buy it, and get it off my hands. Only four a couple hundred dollars. They say there's no point in keeping it. How do I know what exactly the problem is? Would it be better to just swap an engine? Or rebuild it? Even though the miles on the engine are insane. Any feedback would be awesome, thanks |

Hey, so I had the same problem couple of months ago. So I would suggest to check and see if you have any codes stored first, also check your oil pressure cause if you have a bad oil pressure then that may be what lead to your current problem. From the way you described it im leaning towards the idea that you have rod knock, so in this case you would have to either swap or a rebuild. I went for a JDM swap and she is up and running like a champ so if you ever have some questions about that too feel free to ask!
