Knocking in the engine..

Hey everyone, I'm new to this whole experience. I have a 1986 Supra, I bought it cheap , but now i'm discovering why.

As I was driving it on the freeway there was a low clicking sound coming from the engine, but as I kept going the noise became louder. When I finally got home, I check it out and the clicking is now a knocking.

I've been told it's a rod i've also been told that it might be a piston. But no one seems to know for sure.
I've been getting offers from people that want to just buy it, and get it off my hands. Only four a couple hundred dollars. They say there's no point in keeping it.

How do I know what exactly the problem is?
Would it be better to just swap an engine?
Or rebuild it? Even though the miles on the engine are insane.
