OOOH nice new turbo!
So my new aftermarket turbo arrived today, from the supplier on Ebay I decided to try. It seems to be very nice quality indeed & looks very sexy with it's fresh cast turbine housing, non-cracked wastegate and general brand-newness :bouncy:
I'll try to get some pics on here soon, this is the supplier I got it from & some of their pics http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3504094897...84.m1423.l2649 I offered them ?180 and they only knocked it down to ?215 but hey, that's still cheap for a brand new turbo. Free delivery worldwide I think it was too. |
Nicee! Can't wait to see that fresh turbo in that engine bay! Just off curiosity, was there anything wrong with your older turbo or you just got a new one for the hell of it?
|
Oh yes! I blew my old turbo comprehensively a couple of years back now, when the BOV signal pipe split at high revs & when I let off the gas caused massive compressor surge to the point where the turbine sheared right off the shaft!!!
(I was running big boost for an old, standard CT26 though, IIRC I was seeing 12.5-13psi and was saving for a new one as I knew it'd wear quickly, unfortunately the split pipe forced the issue) I only just got the cash to resurrect my car... |
:drool: looks sexy in the ebay pics.
lets see some install pics:gotnos: |
That is a good deal, make sure the wastegate operates cleanly and doesn't stick when opening or closing.
I'd love to buy an upgraded turbo for my MR-2 but it's a while off. I was going to rebuild it but as little as they want for a CT-26 cartridge for the 3S hell, I might have to try it out. My wastegate concerns would be nil then as I'd still be using my current exhaust housing.... hmm.... the wheels are turnin' (and something might be burnin' :P ). |
Yeah it's a great price IMO, I had reservations about it being aftermarket but figured if I pay with paypal & it turns out crap, I'll at least have some come-back. As it happens, the turbo arrived & seems very well made.
Cre, I'll be testing the actuator & wastegate using a rig made from a motorcycle suspension pump and one of my carb balancing gauges, that goes up to 15psi pressure to, make sure it's all good. One plus (provided it works) it the adjustable actuator rod, no more fiddling with shims and picking them up from under the car when you drop a stack!!! Just waiting on a braided oil & water line kit to arrive now and remembered I best fix that power steering hose before I take up all the room in the bay again :rofl2: This is the braided line kit, what do you guys reckon? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3605956987...84.m1497.l2649 |

Haha guess what just arrived as I typed that last reply!
Here's what I got for my ?35+15 p&p (about $85 ish???) Not cheap for something from Taiwan, but not extortionate IMO either, they look good quality and well put together (apart from some bolts have no tensile strength markings so will get my own of them) and considering I only ordered it 3 days ago I'm well pleased. Should make re-installing that turbo at least a bit less of a contortionist's game as I can fit the oil union first & bolt up the now easy to reach & manipulate pipes afterwards. And it will look rather nice too IMHO :) Progress pics and reports from and after the install to follow Also got some pics of my actual turbo |
Aaargh, it's raining now, it best stop by morning! :frown:
