1JZ vs 2JZ - which is better?
Any expereince out there concerning the 1JZGTE vs the 2JZGTE and installing the either nto a MK3 (1989)? Just curious. As far as I know, the basic difference between the 2 engine models is Smog controls and emissions (1JZ = non-US / 2JZ = meets US standards). Is this correct , and there are no other differences?
Has anyone installed a 1 or 2/JZ motor into a MK3 model vehicle? Any issues to be aware of? I am thinkin of replacing my 7MGTE for a 1/2 JZ motor, but want to understand what I am up against from the vast experienced people in this forum. Thanks!!!! Tom |

Bellhousing Flywheel Engine brackets Fuel pump Oil pump Intercooler kit Wiring Harness (can modify the 7MGTE harness and make the OEM work or you can get a new one that will be much simpler) Oil pan kit (need a rear sump setup, most used engines are front sump. You might get a rear sump engine and not need this). Downpipe (this is extra based on if your exhaust is stock versus after-market) |

No. The 1JZ was actually available in the MKIII. If you purchase a full front clip it can be a VERY straight forward swap... Neither will be simple or cheap though and if you've never done a swp before you're best off at least sticking with the same family of engine (M series).
