Newbie: tips on maintaining mk3 supra myself
 

Hello guys,

Its a toyota supra mk3 1989 turbo. So i got up on my lazy butt, and asked myself......how do i do this? how do i do that? i dont want to be those people who take their car to their shops for maintainence i want to do it myself. like the Head gaskets, the air filter, oil change, brakes, coolant, the a/c, and etc. i never went to school, i havent picked up a book, but i know i have to. parts are indeed expensive, and so is labor. I dont have my own shop, nor do i have tools. i wanted to fix simple problems....

my question is, where should i begin? what will i need? where do i get my supplies to get started? and is it hard to work on the supra?

oh and when people said i drive, my car makes a vacuumm noise, like a wooooooooosh not a blow off valve. its maybe the turbo + engine?

Wsup and nice to hear that you got your hands on a Turbo MK3! But first off, what's the condition if your car? How many miles does it have? Are there any kinds if leaks or anything unusual? The one thing that I always have to check are error codes. You should check to see if there are any codes stored up cause that will definitely give you an idea if there's anything wrong.
But as for basic maintenance like oil change, coolant change, brakes, etc... Is fairly easy with the the use of a basic tool set. And you can get a lot of help on maintenance from http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/

i need new brakes, miles 103k !!! and i park in the garage. Theres a lot of black sludge stains from the front as when i move out the garage theres these stains on the floor... could it be the oil leak?

103k is pretty low! But still, the engine could be in any condition. The leaks on the floor could be of oil or coolant, you should definitely check that out. And try and clean out the engine/engine bay and run the engine to check for leaks. While your at it check your oil and coolant levels too

Re: windshield wiper holder?
 

hey i have another Q, you know those windshield wiper holders? apparently its true i asked around, they are sadly discontinued.... and the guy from toyota told me to paint it. Do you know where i can get em still or did u repaint urs as well?

I see no reason to replace them unless they've been reduced to rusty stumps. Sand them, primer them, paint them... thin coats so you don't clog the hinges.

Yeah, agree with Cre. You could just restore them quite easily, but if you really want to get some then i think your best luck would be to find someone parting their supra out on CraigsList or go to a junkyard.
