7mge vs 7mgte
I am looking to buy a mk3 supra but I am not sure which engine to go with 7mge or 7mgte. Would the maintenance for the turbo be hard and what should I do for the maintenance?

GTE without a doubt, the non-turbo is so much less powerful & maintenance generally is the same or easier IMO on the turbo.
Main thing to look for is that the head gasket has been replaced/properly torqued, as they weren't torqued properly from the factory and always fail eventually. Aside from that they're very tough engines. Maintenance wise it's basically the same as any engine turbo or not, regular good quality oil changes, correct mix of antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor in the coolant (and ensuring it's "burped" properly when changing it), filters and plugs. Valve adjustment is by shim on both too. |
Agreed, without a doubt the GTE ftw! Nothing beats the happiness I get out of hearing my turbo spool on a cold night, plus the sound of the BOV haha.

I agree whith the general feel that the gte is better lol. why buy a great car and save an extra 300 bucks to get the n/a spend the little extra for the turbo(that is in good shape)and you will never regret it
