89 wont idle runs rough
 
someone help!!! 89 7mge womt idle runs rough and now the exhaust manifold is turning cherry red hot!! what the heck is going on?? please any help would be greatly appreciated:(

More than likely the catalitic converter is stoped up. It is flanged so you can remove it and knock the insides out with a large screwdriver or piece of pipe; untill you can make a permanent repair with a replacement. They run about $150.00on ebay.

Sounds like you have a bad coil. The cylinders that are not firing are dumping raw fuel into your cats. Will not idle because its misfiring. Had the same problem on a SC400.

Hi! , have you checked the timing ? , red exhaust manifold usually mean a retarded ignition. ( late firing - fuel still burning as it enters the manifold ).
I think this is your first check to carry out .

I have checked timing. set base time but still retarted swapped 88 engine to 89 body, injectors and distrubutor were different plugs so I used 89 dist. and injectors

88 engine 89 body and harness. injectors and dist. have different plugs at harness so I used those 2 parts now timing is retarted even with jumper wire in place still seems to advance and retard????!!! ohhh this one is got me wondering if the dist. is that different?? diag. port gives codes 24 and 51 air temp and a/c. why will it show a code and not lock out ecu from controlling timing??
