Hello guys, new here with a question
Hiya folks, nice to be here.
Ive just bought a 1989 supra 3.0 turbo auto in silver for ?450. It is absolutely mint, it has full toyota S/H right up until 160k which is where it is at now, new turbo so no smoke or anything. Unmarked blue interior with leather and every electric item working. Bodywork is stunning, arches are what can only be described as factory fresh, and the rest of the car is consistent. Pics to follow... However, i was wondering what the setup was with the coolant/expansion. Theres a radiator filler and another tank filler, i drive a cavalier which you fill via one expansion point. On the smaller bottle there appears to be a pipe on the cap which vents to the atmosphere, and this passes steam continuously, hence slowly losing water... What should be happening here? constantly spitting out water or smoke?
that could be from many things, thermostat, radiator cap, trapped air in the system how are you temps when driving? does it run on all 6 all the time or does it stumble |

SupraaGirl is right or it could be you need to flush your radiator or have it checked.

A weak radiator cap can cause it. Get a new one, they are cheap, and you should have one anyway. And don't any of you mention those dreaded 3 letters, until all else is checked.

Well the temperature is always bang on half way.
I think it was an air lock tbh as when we topped it up it was spitting water out at us then went fine. Its steam only, and condenses on the radiator behind it sat at an angle \ |
is your ign timing set to 10deg? if it's out a tooth it will play crazy with water flow & power

Andy unless you have excessive pressure in your cooling system (due to a blowing head gasket) you shouldn't ever have steam coming out of that hose . . . . so if it's not a BHG it may be the Radiator Cap as has already been suggested.
It is a special dual design, as when cooling down it opens to allow coolant to be sucked out of the overflow tank back into the radiator (if it needs it) . . as well as of course acting as a safety valve and opening if excessive pressure builds up By the way, have you not found the UK Mk3 Supra Forum? |
