2JZGE NONTURBO Swap
Hey folks,
I've spent a decent amount of time running around the internet attempting to answer this question to no avail... Long story short, I'm in a position to acquire for very cheap (possibly free) a 2JZGE in good condition, and I have a 7MGE (MA70) that needs an engine rebuild (along with some other odds and ends); basically, what would go in to the 2JZGE-->MA70 swap? I've only been able to find build threads on the turbo swap/conversion, since the general consensus is that n/a "isn't worth it." However, given the circumstances, it's actually quite worth it for me. If anyone has information/tips/pointers regarding this particular swap, I'd be extraordinarily grateful. |

The swap's requirements are largely the same. You'll need a subframe from an 1989 or later MKIII. I can't recall if the 89+ motormounts are the same for the 7M and 1JZ. If they are the same then you just need a set of '89+ motor mounts. If the engine had the W58 transmission then I THINK the transmission and bell housing will drop in but you might need to swap the transmission's extension housing and shifter. The V160, 6-speed, requires a good deal of work to fit in there. If you and to go automatic I believe you'll have an easier time as it was used in both the MKIII and MKIV just like the W58. If you want to go with the MKIII turbo's R154 then you'll need a 1JZ flywheel and bellhousing... to the best of my recollection.
If you're getting a good deal and have plenty of time to spare and experience then I wouldn't say that it's not worth swapping in the 2JZ. The 2JZ-GE is more robust and can handle an added turbo in stock form unlike the 7M.... There are complete bolt on kits too. If you're inexperienced, don't have another means of transportation or have no budget for unexpected incidentals... Sell the 2JZ or store it and find a cheap 7M-GTE to swap in and learn on.
